Were woken by the snow plough clearing the car park at about 7:30, looked out the window to 2/3” of snow but low cloud :( we turned the diesel heater on to warm the van but it had been a mild night at around freezing point :) and double quilts worked a treat, although poor Mag had a disturbed night with my snoring :( Had a lazy lay in as it started to rain and the new weeks skiers seemed in no hurry to go up the mountain in the poor visibility but when a few started to arrive everyone did a hand brake turn at the end of the car park by our van !!! We walked over to the shop in Morillon for bread, back to the van to pack lunch and at midday we set off along the pisted path to Samoens. We made a small detour to four really shaggy horses over by the Blue Lac – one with the most amazing blue eyes!!! The pisted path over the huge Morillon cross country ski meadow ended and turned into a meter wide path leading down to the river :) It was very beautiful despite the light rain and very quiet, just the odd Nordic skier and snow shoers . I stopped several times en-route to take pics while Mag amused herself throwing snowballs into the river and watching them float downstream :) We crossed the river on a big footpath bridge as we neared Samoens and had our picnic on a table near the leisure centre on the Lac where I landed my paraglider several years ago and our boys played in the electric boats – it was the summer :) We continued past the Samoens cable car and into the town centre across a snowy meadow, the shops were still closed for lunch but we sat in the square and the hardware shop opened and we were able to buy the wire heart basket for Maggie Coles and then headed to the bus stop near our old apartment to catch the bus back – light weights I know!!! The first bus came and took us around the chalets and to Samoens cable car but the next bus to Morillon was another 30 mins. So we decided to walk the 4 km back the way we came stopping at the cake shop on the way :) It was just as lovely on the way back but there were a lot of other walkers out as the rain had stopped. Got back to the van knackered for tea and cake – Mag did her rug I dozed off – it’s my age !!! but I did fall over in the car park first thing and my butt is a bit sore :( Then mega tea of all the left overs in the fridge and Phase ten as the rain falls on the roof!!!
